The Roman settlement, to the south of the island, was constructed adjacent to the causeway linking it to the mainland, built by Alexander the Great during his seige in 332BC. The ceremony took place at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, a site traditionally associated with the crucifixion and burial of Jesus Christ. From Magdala, Jesus and his disciples traveled along the western shore of the Sea of Galilee heading northwards towards Dalmanutha (Mark 8:10).
